The triptych called The Weight of History is an artwork Çağrı Saray created for his exhibition Gray Aisle while he was in an artist-in-residence program in Paris. The three photographs are shot in fron of the Louvre, a prominent center for the global cultural scene and a touristic source of income for France alongside its historicity. The trio represents Çağrı Saray’s two different states: his state in Paris as a ‘Turkish artist coming from abroad’ and his artistic state in a macro scale, as a single person inside a haystack of artists. On the other hand, the work exposes the straddle between how quickly being ‘an artist from Turkey’ transforms into being ‘a Turkish artist’.
