The work titled “Confession” takes its reference point from an image that we are accustomed to see frequently in the news during Turkish single-channel television era. When captured; offenders, terrorists or smugglers were shown on television in front of Turkish flag with their faces blurred and censored and with evidence of crime lying on a table nearby. Instead of using a typical public art technique, the stencil; the work utilizes the template as its material and we see a person with a number of different expressions in front of the flag. When we look carefully at templates, we see a person with vague expressions, at certain scenes he is both confident and and dominant but in some others we cannot decide if he’s victimized or powerful. These portraits with different characteristics are in fact self portraits.
